Maya Angelou's words make the reader feel enveloped in a warm hug! I feel especially that young females should read this book, as it offers truthful and genuine advice from a woman who has been many places and whom visited and spoke with youth during her time. Ms Angelou does not claim to be an expert in any field, yet is undoubtedly wise with her love for humanity, and ability to share experiences from her childhood and current reflections of topics such as Christianity, love, racism, national pride, self respect, grief and friendship. This really is a book that lifts the heart and makes you feel powerful and connected to other women. One to read again and again!
Letter to My Daughter is a quick read. Maya Angelou packed a lot of wisdom into the very brief essays in this short book. You're bound to find something here that will enrich your life.
This is the first time that I have read any of Angelou Maya books. This book was very inspirational and uplifting. I will definitely continue my quest to read all of her books. Looking forward to exploring her greatest in books & poetry.
Maya Angelou imparts pearls of wisdom garnered from her full and often tumultuous life in this letter to daughters everywhere. It is a collection of short essays, poems and reflections that you will want to read in one sitting!
A mix of autobiographical stories, poetry, and insights, this book written by Dr. Angelou made me laugh, smile, and most importantly think. It is full of Angelou's wisdom that she has learnt for her life and meant to insipre her daughters, the ones she never had and most likely will never meet.
(Read 5/2009). My mother recently sent me a copy of Maya Angelou's book "Letter to My Daughter." I have been reading it slowly over the last month or so, since it is comprised of little vignettes only a few pages each, I could pick it up and put it down whenever I wanted. Usually after I finish a book that I was given I donate it to the local library; but, I am keeping this one (sorry library, but you have a copy so don't hate me). It is filled with so many treasures that I can access again and again that I am hanging onto this one. There are so many great little inspirational passages, as well as quotation opportunities for graduations, weddings, new mothers, etc. that I know I will appreciate it greatly for future references when occasions arise. This also reminded me of how much I love Maya Angelou's writing and sent me forth in search of some more of her works at my local library (conveniently located right across the street).
A lovely, quick read. Nothing too preachy and she doesn't bash you over the head with "meaning". Thoroughly enjoyed.
