Moybeg is home to Englishwoman Rose, her Irish husband Michael Coyne and their three children: Emma, Francis and Kate. With her English accent and her London ways, Rose is the only 'stranger' in the community. That is until 4,000 American servicemen and women arrive along with the handsome Captain Dreyfuss. As Rose finds herself acting as peacekeeper between the disgruntled locals and the airbase, she is also drawn to the engaging young captain.

I hope there is another season. Lots of questions left unanswered.

The story focusses on the mother, as the title might suggest, with the boy as an observer during his coming-of-age. I like that the mother is torn between her love for two decent men. All of the storylines rise above cliché, while portraying small town life with a nostalgic hue. The voice-over of the boy as a writer and man reminds me of The Waltons TV series. I hope this Masterpiece series will continue and look forward to seeing how the conflicts and characters develop.

Starts out focusing on the boy, but as it moves towards the mother it gets interesting. Ended up really liking it and am looking forward to the next series.

We liked it a lot and hope the series continues. If it does, I believe it will get even better. The writers have set up the characters quite nicely, but need another season to tie up loose ends with several of them and to resolve the 3 love triangles going on.

There are too many loose ends in this first series, but speaking for myself, no sure I am interested to find out. The husband is losing his pub and the wife, supposedly a righteous person with strong morals, is recklessly in love with an American soldier despite loving her husband and 3 kids. Would have been more convincing if the husband were to be depicted as a brute.

The story of a strong woman who holds the school, her family, and the town together in the wake of US servicemen and women invading their small town. The boy is a wonderful actor; the adults while good actors are written a tiny bit cliche. The poverty, xenophobia, the endless frustration of a people still under a feudal system, and the pettiness of women towards each other because of their powerlessness make this reality-based series sound bleak, but it is the perseverance, hope, and resiliency that draw the viewer into the story and gives us hope. Well worth watching.

I found this story very engaging and well acted . The tale requires viewer participation ,
as it leaves the conclusion up to your imagination ; cynic or romantic .

I found this a very poor production.
