Ratter is a seriously creepy and simple thriller about an obsessive stalker and a college girl. This stalker watches the girl through her laptop, her phone and her past. I think this movie covers some very justified fears people have these days regarding technology and what can happen to them socially, career wise, etc. People can find out who you are from someone posting details or overhearing details. Then they can fabricate web pages, social media, dating sites, review sites and many other things. The people if they find out information can track your phone, find out where you do your shopping, eat, socialize, etc.

Some technologies in our phones or computer programs might be set to default post things and people may be unaware. An example of this is with wifi and bluetooth turned off on your phone or tablet it could still have it on. Security tracker programs can have it as on and it be hidden. Other applications might work similarly such as Googles own tracking software and "features."

From that people can gang stalk and terrorize even complete strangers, or as revenge or for money. Even if information is untrue people can slander or stalk a person that has gone through this. Police taking action varies and perhaps sometimes are too late after someone has died, or even then not realizing the cause so not pursuing it further.

Boring.

My computer savvy friend showed me just how realistic this movie is. It's beyond disturbing. Everything you see on here, can happen to you. All the hacking, the observation via microphones and cameras, is completely doable. This is a highly educational movie that everyone should see, especially the younger generations who are growing up surrounded by invasive technology and becoming desensitised to the risks of using such technology. Protect yourself as much as you can. Choose smartphones carefully (avoid if possible), tape over your cameras (webcam, etc.) when not in use, and if at all possible, find someone who can remove your microphone from your computer and buy a separate plug-in microphone if you need one. Even those reward cards you get from Woolworths, etc. are tracking you for their own benefit. Why else would they be practically paying you to hand over your information? Your shopping list can tell a lot about you. Read up on it. But to be honest, there's not a lot we can truly do to protect ourselves as much as would be comfortable. That's a sad truth to swallow.

This is what horror is supposed to be! Don't watch if you have children going away to school.

This is a movie plot we've all seen before, but this one stood out in its simplicity because the stalker was totally mysterious and the ending was shell-shocking.
