In the land of Sempera, the rich control everything - even time. Ever since the age of alchemy and sorcery, hours, days and years have been extracted from blood and bound to iron coins. The rich live for centuries; the poor bleed themselves dry. Jules and her father are behind on their rent and low on hours. To stop him from draining himself to clear their debts, Jules takes a job at Everless, the grand estate of the cruel Gerling family. There, Jules encounters danger and temptation in the guise of the Gerling heir, Roan, who is soon to be married. But the web of secrets at Everless stretches beyond her desire, and the truths Jules must uncover will change her life for ever ... and possibly the future of time itself.

"Time is a prison. She is the key". WOAH, talk about amazing plot twists... The book is set in a place known as Sempera. In this world, time is added to lives in the form of blood turned into coins. Those of power and greed live on for centuries to come, while others diminish slowly. Jules now has an opportunity to return to Everless castle, after ten years of staying away from the palace and she takes the opportunity. Once at the castle, she works as a maid and befriends Ina, the soon to be queen. Throughout the story, Jules encounters secrets, cruelty and most of all, friends from her past she never thought to see again. But things at the palace aren't what they seem, as Jules begins to uncover secrets from her past about her true life. I purchased the book from TARGET, and it included a bonus feature from the story, which was a little confusing, but a great add!! So overall, this book was great from the cover to the end, and I especially LOVED Liam. BUT, there were some parts in the book that seemed kind of slow and confusing. I rate this book a 3.5/5, so thank you Sara Holland for this really good book :) OH AND ALSO I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE COVER...just wow!

What first drew me to this book was the gorgeous cover and then I found the story very intriguing and couldn't put it down. I found it interesting that time was currency in this book and that people could sell time by having it extracted from their blood and bound to iron. And then in turn, people (almost always the rich), could then add to their own lifespan by consuming these blood irons. This fantasy without a doubt drew me in and I look forward to the next book in the series.

I would've finished this book in one sitting if I could. It was a great read! This book had about 2-3 plot twists, and the only reason I saw them coming was because I accidentally stumbled upon some spoilers online while hunting for reviews... I thought it was quite refreshing to see a new style of descriptive writing, like the one presented in this book. Like some others have said, this book really does bring a new meaning to the phrase "running out of time."

My only regret is finishing this book so early because now I have to wait patiently for the sequel (grrrrr). Otherwise, I loved it!! I hope the next book is just as interesting :)

Well, I finished it and I guess that means something? I just....I read a review where it said Everless has all the usual tropes but plays around with them and makes them interesting. Another said that there was no love triangle and no instalove. All false. The plot was decent, though often transparent, and I could have done completely without the Rowan obsession entirely. I hate trying to guess the endings of books ahead, but this one was almost impossible NOT to figure out save one pleasantly surprising twist. Otherwise, it was about as thrilling as any of the generic fantasies saturating YA the past few years. It's been a long time since I read a fantasy, so it wasn't too tiresome, and the addition of running out of time in your blood was a nice change, but there's a reason I've been skipping fantasy novels lately. Read it if you still enjoy those, but if you're tired of the same tropes and predictable plotlines, look elsewhere. The writing doesn't make this one stand apart.

Everless was an incredible YA book that I didn't want to put it down. When I had time to read it the story went by so quickly as if time had sped up for me too. I had no idea how fantastic this book was going to be before I read it but I'm so glad I did. The beautiful cover drew me in at first and from the brief plot I read it intrigued me but the actual story just blew me away. Everless has an interesting idea behind it, great creativity and also friendships that were so much better than romantic relationships but there was even a little romance going on that was a great addition to the plot.

"Wick studies it with a businesslike air, glancing briskly between the flame and his stopwatch. But as the seconds tick on, he slowly lowers the timepiece, and a deep frown furrows his face. Though I've never seen timeletting before, I know from his expression that something is wrong."
