If there is one book everyone should read at least once in their life, it would have to be "Out of my mind". This book is honestly so inspiring and can undoubtedly change anyone's perspective. This book is about a girl named Melody who can't speak, walk, or move, but she is extremely smart. She can remember and understand everything. She just doesn't have a way to express that. My favourite part in the book is when she gets chosen for a quiz competition in her school. Only the smartest students in the school get the chance to take part in the competition. There is a trial quiz that students need to take, and Melody gets the highest score. She is so happy. My other favourite part in the book is when Melody finds out about a device that can allow her to speak! She is on top of the world! The first thing she makes her device say is "I love you" to her parents. There was one part in the book that made me very angry. That was when her team left her to take part in the next level in Washington, although they won the first time due to Melody. The flight takes off without her. She is crestfallen that her team deceived her. I was very mad at that part and the description in the book really made me feel her pain. The next day at school, the team reveals that they lost miserably, and they apologize. Melody can't stop laughing as she walks away. The ending put a smile on my face. This was an amazing book to read and I would definitely recommend this book! Rating- 5/5

I am in love with this book! I could not put this book down! I’m pretty sure I read it for two hours straight! I love the power of having a disability but being able to deal with it, and being one of the smartest girls not to mention people in your class. I think this is a great book, because it has so much confidence and good lessons in it!

I actually got to meet Sharon M. Draper and she's so inspiring. This book is great! I read for Battle of The Books at my school and it's definitely one of my favorite books. It really shows everyone to not judge people by how they look, but by their personality.

i think it was more fun to read my book than my history textbook while doing homework. I like to read in general because it is fun to get into the book.

A perfect read for a child looking for a book with a character with a disability as the protagonist or for young readers to get a first hand perspective on the struggles those with disabilities face everyday. Draper does an excellent job delving deep into the thoughts of Melody, a cerebral palsy young lady, to show that, despite her physical limitations, she has nearly the same dreams and desires as almost any other 5th grade girl. Her determination to prove her intelligence at the 5th grade quiz bowl is empowering, as is her resolution to save her little sister even when all odds are against her, including her ability to talk. Readers will come away with a renewed respect for those unlike themselves and recognize that perhaps we all are more similar than different in the end.

Out Of My Mind is a book about an eleven year old disabled girl named Melody. Melody is unique, she has something called a photographic memory. So everything that she hears or sees is stuck in her brain without a delete button. Melody is also stuck in a wheel chair, cant talk, and must be fed by someone else. Out of my mind is about Melody getting her chance to speak using her machine, and how her life is and how to adapt.

Being unable to speak, unable to walk, to hug her parents, to tell anybody: I love you. It's hard. Especially when people think you're retarded and your fish commits suicide. Melody has handled it all; but now she has a chance to speak- to be the person she truly is, in a way that will stay with you forever. Read it, love it, and cry: this is an amazing book.

This book is about a girl with a disability that does not let her move her body on her own will and how she over comes that and earns a voice.

In the book Out of My Mind, Sharon M. Draper writes about an incredibly bright eleven year old girl named Melody who has cerebral palsy. Melody wants so much to be able to communicate with others but is trapped inside by a disability that leaves her a prisoner without a voice. She desperately wants to talk; to show the world that she is actually gifted verbally, with a photogenic memory for words that surpasses that of all her peers. But she cannot, beyond grunting and spastic movements. With the help school assistant, Melody gets a machine that talks for her. With it, she is no longer trapped; she is no longer out of her mind! This machine enables Melanie to do more things and reach new heights. It also brings on more problems. I would highly recommend this book.
