Eh, nothing special here!

Great action, good story, and the acting is pretty decent.
Director Roar Uthaug nails it.
Very well done.
Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider is almost laughable in comparison.

Tomb Raider is the fast-paced and action-packed movie inspired from the popular video game turned movie series with a young Lara Croft on her first adventure. This movie partially follows the storyline of the 2013 video game "Tomb Raider" so fans of the games will enjoy seeing it come to life with such a strong resemblance to her character and setting. I was impressed with the dedication to character that the main actor gave to playing Lara Croft and I hope they make another movie so we can see her in this role again with more tomb raiding!

Tomb Raider is fine. It is very much a live-action video game, to the point that two scenes near the beginning somewhat resemble tutorials, the bad guys decorate their base with neat stacks of multicolored barrels, and a character in a later scene explicitly calls an obstacle "a color puzzle". In keeping with this, the film often seems determined to keep the cutscenes short so as to move on quickly to the next action sequence. But the action is entertaining if not thrilling, the plot, if not intriguing or even slightly original, is at least coherent, and the acting and direction are adequate. It is also nice to see a hero(ine) who is reluctant to kill.

I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for this movie. I found it to be quite exciting, entertaining, well-made, and well-acted. Alicia Vikander was amazing as Lara Croft. I loved the action scenes and despite some gory violence I would watch this again. I hope there will be a sequel!

Entertaining for the first 45 minutes about Lara Croft’s origin but the rest of the adventure with West and Wu was uninspiring, made up of retreads of lackluster actions, production sets, CGI and overly staged cliffhangers. Noted the trendy international ensemble of colaborators and my vote for the culprit to this debacle of the 2001 “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” prequel is a tie between the freshman screenwriter and the director.
Notes:
Alicia Vikander - Swedish actress in many films as "The Light Between Oceans 2016."
Dominic West - English actor in many films and best known in "The Wire."
Daniel Wu - Chinese American action film actor and best known in "Into The Badlands."
Geneva Robertson-Dworet - American screenwriter, her first real job.
Roar Uthaug - Norwegian film director of "The Wave (Bølgen) 2015" which had the same problems as well: …the first 60 minutes was pretty good in anticipation and arrival of the Tsunami Wave caused by an epic rock slide from the mountain Åkerneset. The last 45 minutes on the aftermath was too anticlimactic in heroics beyond reason…

Enjoyable if approached as a Lara Croft origin story. The character is young and doesn't really know what she's doing. Not the experienced "tomb raider" of the Jolie movies. As always with this type of movie, the stunts are well done, but also unrealistic.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: A disease that takes control of you and makes you go mad and die. It also makes your veins go black. A dead body does sudden movements.
