When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine's cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter with Brooke, who is an attorney, but Brooke knows that Mrs. Warrick has long been a client of a prestigious Atlanta law firm. Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club, so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades, Millie, Ruth and Varina. When Josephine dies with her secrets intact, Brooke is charged with contacting Josephine's friends' descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who've actually never met.

wonderful book. love the characters, which always makes a book more fascinating. the 2 plots that Andrews weaves together makes for a read with enough mystery and suspense to keep you going to the last page...and then make you wish you had more to read!

I enjoyed this book a lot. The cover makes it seem like a vacation on the beach but that is not what it is at all. The book is heavy with sadness, friendships broken, secrets kept, murder covered up and lots of mysteries waiting to be uncovered. Josephine Bettendorf Warrick is 99-years-old and dying of cancer. She lives on Talisa Island and wants to make sure the state doesn't take the island and change it into a park. She wants to keep it private. She hires Brooke Trappnell to track down her three friends from the 1940's who she needs to make amends to. Whether you like Mary Kay Andrews' other books that are more light hearted, give this one a try anyway. It's well written, the characters are well developed and there is a lot going on. I listened to the book and I kept thinking I would stop listening and leave the rest for in the car and I had to know what was happening next. I couldn't stop listening. Some of the things I guessed at and some of the things I was surprised. I found it a very entertaining and enjoyable book.

I struggled reading this; it just went on and on. I don't usually read this author's books and maybe that was part of the problem, however, I did enjoy it towards the ending.
