The spring of 1824 is a challenging one for the inhabitants of Paradise N.Y. when a flood devastates the village. But for Nathaniel and Elizabeth Bonner, it's also a time of reunion as their children return from far-off places: Lily and her husband from Italy, and Martha Kirby, the Bonners' ward, from Manhattan. Although Lily is nursing her own grief, it is Martha, fleeing a crushing humiliation, who brings with her trouble that will reverberate in all their lives.

This was a fantastic conclusion to the series. I don't think I would have preferred it as a stand alone since it builds upon and ties up loose ends from the other books in the series. I give it 5 stars as a conclusion book.

Although this wasn't my favourite book in this wonderful series, I still enjoyed it and thought it was a a well done conclusion to a great series of books.

I truly enjoyed the series but be ready to have a lot of time on your side. Great long books. Love the way the series ended.

Kind of sad that this is the last book in the series......maybe will re-read in another 10 years or so!
