This is an imaginative reconstruction of five men, all real figures, and four days of one of the world's most famous battles. In June 1815, Napoleon had just escaped from Elba, the Bourbon kings were on the run and the Allied forces were in disarray. Although we may know the outcome, the drama keeps the reader absorbed.

Brilliant! A wonderful recounting of the battle of Waterloo from the viewpoints of several of the key players. Though fictionalized, the book follows historical events very closely and makes sense, for the modern reader, of the bloody chess match that changed the course of European history.
