Crickley Hall is an unusually large house on the outskirts of the village at the bottom of Devil's Cleave. A river flows past the front garden. Gabe has brought his wife, Eve, and daughters, Loren and Cally, down to Devon, to this peaceful seaside village of Hollow Bay. This novel explores the obtuse territories of evil and the supernatural.

I watched the 3-hour BBC movie based upon the book, before I knew there WAS a book. The show was so intriguing I just had to read the book (I prefer books to videos anyway). The book is awesome, hard to put down, addictive and of course, even better than the movie. Even my tweenage and teenage grandchildren were amazingly silent and awed as they watched the show; a miracle. My granddaughter has asked me to get the book for her for Christmas.

Found this book hard to put down and James Herbert made the bad guy truely evil. Loved it.
