This was an intriguing murder mystery with a definite twist. Set in Berlin just after the Great War, a woman shows up in an insane asylum claiming to be Anastasia, heir to the Romanov dynasty. She fears the Cheka and is totally uncooperative in any attempt to question her to verify her story. Events move slowly forward against the backdrop of the rise of Hitler and his Nazi party. Parts of the narrative send shivers up your spine when you realize how the nation was taken over seemingly so easily. Good story and a good read.

I wasn't so sure about this title; I've recently discovered her 'mistress of the art of death' series and really enjoyed them, so i was predisposed to like this one.
I had a very, very hard time getting into the story. I'm not sure what it was - maybe the pacing? however, once i got into Part 2, I was hooked, and wanted to re-read it immediately upon finishing it. interesting twist at the end, though in retrospect the clues were there.
