Vampire Academy sucked me right back into the vampire world. Richelle Mead’s world filled with secrets and shadows captured my imagination right from page one. This story is filled with the power of friendship, family, loyalty, and love. I loved Rose and Dimitri from the moment I read the dialogue between the two of them. The only character I didn’t like was Lissa. I found her to be a dull character. The plot was action packed and enjoyable. The story sometimes moved a little slow but that was the only thing I didn’t fully enjoy. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes vampires and action. Rating – 4.5/5.

This book wasn’t something I really liked. This definitely wasn’t a bad book, but it didn’t hook me as well as other books of this genre have. The genre was Fantasy/Paranormal. One thing I did like about the book was the main character Rose. I liked her because she was a really strong person and she is relatable in many ways. One thing I did not like about the book was the fact that the start was pretty confusing, as I thought I was reading a sequel instead of the first book. Another thing I did not like about the book was the fact that everything I expected to happen did happen. There was no element of surprise in the book. This was a pretty appropriate book, with some parts with vulgar language. I would mostly recommend it to teenagers. I give this book a 2 out of 5 stars.

This review is on Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. It was first published in 2007 and is in a series of 5 other books: (1. Vampire Academy 2. Frostbite 3. Shadow Kiss 4. Blood Promise 5. Spirit Bound 6. Last Sacrifice). Vampire Academy is a young adult fantasy book with a little romance. The book’s main characters consist of Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir, best friends at St. Vladimir’s Academy (Or as Rose calls it, Vampire Academy). The book starts off when Lissa and Rose are caught after two years of freedom, and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy. Throughout the book Rose is dedicated to protecting Lissa at all costs, as her guardian in training. Rose is a Dhampir, a protector, while Lissa is a Moroi, a ‘good vampire.’ All good things come to an end with the ‘strigoi’ a group of notorious ‘bad vampires’ They are said to be safe within the Academy’s walls, but is anything truly safe?

A creative blend of a unique vampire mythology, extreme high-school drama, and Mead's characteristically readable prose that makes for an enjoyable start to the series. I came late to the Vampire Academy party, and had seen the movie first--which did a good job of capturing much of the plot, but not so great a job of capturing the heart of the book--so my expectations were a bit low as I started. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the story, and I am looking forward to continuing the series and seeing the characters develop and hopefully move past the over-the-top high school drama, which is just not quite my cup of tea.

I love this book. It's one of my favorite books, and part of what makes it so great are the characters. Firstly, Rose. She has a sarcastic remark for everything, a fiery temper, and the ability to kick butt hard anytime, anywhere. Aren't we all so sick of the timid, shy little girls who stammer authors write about nowadays? Rose is exactly what I think heroine should be like, and is witty and intelligent.
Lisa is a bit more timid but deeper into the story, the author reveals deeper, darker parts of her so she isn't all princess-y. It shows she has a sadistic side, compared to the cliched innocent, blindsided, confused girl.
Christian plays the bad boy, but instead of being miraculously changed by love and realization (gasp!) it's very gradual and realistic. Trust me, it's not the dark, shadowy guy who really has a shield around him because when he was a kid the world scarred him and he reveals himself completely to the new girl he just met. Well, only like 25% of it. But other than that, there are lots of original traits.
Dimitri... well, I dunno. He seems to be very secretive, and you can't really tell what he's thinking and only see him through Rose's eyes, where he... well, I won't spoil anything.

The plot is very interesting. At the start, I was completely confused and started to think that maybe I had the wrong book and that this was the second or third. Wouldn't you if there was a fight and feeding? But later on, hidden things are revealed and it is a LOT easier to keep up. When Lisa and Rose return, they see a lot of old friends and new enemies. An interesting fact was that mixed in with the adventure and suspense of Moroi and Strigoi and all that stuff, Mead also blends in a teen's sorta kinda worst nightmare: high school. Be prepared for cliques, gossip, drama and all that good stuff.

But unlike all the other she's turned into a vampire and someone's hunting her because apparently out of eight billion people in the world SHE'S special and stuck in a love triangle plot, St Vladimir's changes it up. The guardian/Moroi system is very original.

All of these things combined make a delicious book. Well, at least to me. I couldn'tput it down.

Interesting read... I'm looking forward to reading the next book! I would have given this five stars, but there were certain things that I don't feel were explained fully... like how Strigori are made. I don't understand how Moroi, Damphir, or humans are turned.... nor how the Damphir seem to be stronger than the Moroi... how does that work if they are only have vampire? Little confused on those and a couple other things, but I'm really enjoying the story. It's very immersive and a unique take on the average vampire story.

i so ship Romitri!!! Honestly I think that this is a better book series than Twilight. I watched the movie on Netflix after reading this book, and they actually did pretty good at keeping with the story.

Vampire Academy was a very well written book that didn't keep me at the edge of my seat the whole time, but was never boring to read. There is just a nice touch of romance mixed together with friendship and a LOT of drama, though really, I enjoyed those dramatic parts. I would definitely recommend this book to female protagonist lovers and overall romance addicts.

Vampire Academy is equal parts Mean Girls and Twilight. It has a unique vampire mythos that will have you saying Strigoi and Moroi in your sleep. If you like laugh out loud dialogue, mysterious plot twists, campy high school melodrama, and strong female protagonists, then Vampire Academy is totally worth devouring in a binge read. I highly recommend it.

Vampire Academy is the first of six books in the Vampire Academy series. The six books in this series are; Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kissed, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound and The Last Sacrifice. This is the prequel series to the Bloodlines series. These books are told from Rosemarie Hathaways' point of view. This novel is placed in a hidden Vampire world, from humans. In the vampire world there are Dhampirs; which are half humans/ half vampires. Moroi who are vampires that specialize in a magical element either fire, water, air, earth or spirit. The Dhampirs protect the Moroi from the Strigoi; which are evil, blood-sucking vampires who drink to kill. Dhampir's kill Strigois with a silver stake; which have all the elements in it except spirit, dhampirs put the stake through the strigiois heart, in order for them to die.

Rose and Princess Valissa Dragmor (who is the last in her royal line) have been on the run for two years. Lissa is a moroi and specialized in spirit she can heal living things. Rose and Lissa are best friends and have an un-breakable bound. When the guardians from St.Vladmirs find them, they return back to St. Vladmirs Academy- the place where they are in most danger. Lissa finds it hard to return her status. While Rose (a dhampir) trains with Dimitri Belikov to catch up on her training to become Lissa's guardian. While in training Rose feels something for Dimitri she tries to keep it from distracting her training.

This series is my favourite I have ever read. I recommend this book if your into the fantasy genre. This book shows that girls are equally as strong as boys, and that girls have power too.
