Blood PromiseBook - 2009
The recent Strigoi attack at St. Vladimir's Academy was the deadliest ever in the school's history, claiming the lives of Moroi students, teachers, and guardians alike. Even worse, the Strigoi took some of their victims with them. . . including Dimitri.
He'd rather die than be one of them, and now Rose must abandon her best friend, Lissa--the one she has sworn to protect no matter what--and keep the promise Dimitri begged her to make long ago. But with everything at stake, how can she possibly destroy the person she loves most?

Rose Hathaway embarks on a dangerous mission, letting go of her education in order to hunt down her dhampir-turned-Strigoi boyfriend and teacher, Dimitr Belikov.
In Blood Promise Rose is on her own, so is Lissa for that matter, Rose has set her self up for what seems to be a suicide mission. Dimitri is stronger, faster, smarter and older than Rose, now that he is a Strigoi there is no way she can defeat him, yet she packs her bags, hugs Lissa and heads off to Russia. It was great getting to know Dimitri's family and what a real Dhamphir's community was like. The time with his family helped Rose to heal his family accepted her, they treated her like a widow, not like a student losing a teacher she had a crush on.
Ok this is going to be really hard not to spoil the plot for you guys... the middle and end were so mind blowing, Rose is lost trying to figure out who she is and what she really wants in life. Meanwhile Lissa is losing herself slowly to the darkness as well as something more sinister.
