From the rice farms of India to America's corn belt, this book spans the globe, dissecting the specific practices of modern life that have put us at odds with nature and showing how these trends manifest themselves throughout the world. More than simply another treatise on global warming, this book tells a story that presents a clear, thoughtful look at how our disassociation from nature has helped contribute to the greatest environmental crisis in the history of mankind.

One doesn't usually think of Prince Charles as an insightful advocate of good ecological practices or sustainable urban environments, but that is exactly what this book is: a brilliant analysis of holistic cities and agriculture.

Prince Charles book 'Harmony' was well-laid out and his argument held my attention. I wouldn't say though that he was persuasive. He presents the case for a wide range of complementary and alternative ideas that Charles feels would lead us all into harmony with each other and nature. His intention is very good but several of his alternative views of knowledge will probably remain on the fringe. On the whole, a good overview of a wide-range of topics.

Perhaps I should not have been surprised that so many people failed to fathom what I was doing. So many appeared to think - or were told - that I was merely leaping from one subject to another - from architecture one minute to agriculture the next - as if I spent a morning saving the rainforests, then in the afternoon jumping to help young people start new businesses.
What I have actually been trying to demonstrate is that all of these subjects are completely inter-related and that we have to look at the whole picture to understand the problems we face. For not only does it concern the way we treat the world around us, it is also to do with how we view ourselves.
