This is pretty much the Australian version Red Dawn [the original 1984 movie or the 2012 remake].

I am now reading the third book of this series, so that just goes to show that this is a book worth reading. In the beginning you may find it takes a while to get into the action of the story, but it is worth it so, stick around as long as you can. This series shows how life and change in a minute and we shouldn't take even the smallest things for granted. The author portrays different sides of teenage life all collaborating as one (ex. rural v.s suburban life/ different culture or mindsets) in a realistic way, using the least amount of stereotypes. The author does a good job continuing the plot in the other books and does not make them seem as if they are a bad rip off of the first book. Great series packed with adventure, action, feeling and friendship. I recommend this book for readers of the age of 12-15 with a 4/5 star rating.

December 2016,
I cannot recommend this series highly enough. This is book one of seven in the Tomorrow Series. Each book is engrossing, well written, and exciting. Highly recommended

August 2016,
I have watched the movie several times before I discovered that there is a series of books. John Marsden creates a 'teen' book that is believable, has likable characters, complete with their own teenage problems, yet strong enough to organize themselves into a dynamic, productive group. Therefore, the audience can do nothing other than cheer them on. Risks are taken and the audience are carried along for the ride. Excellent story telling. Good for young teens to little old ladies. LOL I cannot wait for the next in the series. Unfortunately, EPL does not carry the whole series in book form.

great book with an original story line, however not as good as the movie

I did like the setup and the authentic teen voices, but I felt that there was too much "tell" at times -- when Ellie waxes philosophical about how "humans invented hell and evil," I want to skip ahead to get to the parts where they blow up bridges. It's so pompous! While Ellie and the gang's emotional and strategic responses are quite believable and well-rendered, this book is not as exciting as one might expect given the premise. The characters seem to spend most of their time thinking "deep thoughts" being confused/attracted to each other, and hanging out appreciating nature. When they get into tense situations, I as a reader don't feel their fear -- maybe it's the pacing? or a sense of emotional distance in the writing?

This book is good, but I felt as if the book didn't exactly pull e in. it isn't the book I would normally read. It is OK but it seamed the story a bit unreal.
