When the wife of wealthy hedge fund owner Gregory Breckenridge disappears the police suspect him of having her killed in order to marry his mistress. So Breckenridge hires Harry Brock to find her. Harry locates a professional skip tracer Caedmon Rivers to help him find Afton Breckenridge. The information that Caedmon collects convinces Harry that Afton is still alive and is systematically cashing out all her investments. But the evidence against Breckenridge mounts when the police receive a letter seemingly written by Afton stating that if she disappears Breckenridge has killed her. Harry and Caedmon find more evidence that Afton is alive but someone is determined that they will never share that information. Afton appears briefly determined to save her husband s life and to help Harry prevent her own murder. But before he can act on her information Harry and Caedmon are driven by a firestorm of bullets into a forest where they must fight for their lives.

I enjoyed reading about an untouched part of the Florida everglades & its flora & fauna more than the actual story.
The story had a lot of twists & turns & a nasty incident which did not add to it. In fact it was like a before & after book.
