Alice has just returned to London from months of travelling abroad. She is late to hear the news that her father is dying, and returns to the family home only just in time to say goodbye. Daniel hasn't had a roof over his head for almost thirty years, but to him the city of London feels like home in a way that no bricks and mortar ever did. He spends every day searching for his daughter; the daughter he has never met. Until now...

I took this off the shelf impulsively and was pleasantly surprised. It was enjoyable and thought-provoking. Do YOU agree with how the book ends? Would YOU have done the same thing? Thoughts to ponder.

poignant without being twee...I believe ms. butler can write! I found the character of Daniel to be especially captivating- original. Lovely descriptions of what it feels like to lose grasp and to feel 'outside' your own family (and who hasn't felt that)-
