"In 1948, the Soviet Union blockades the Allied sectors of Berlin in order to bring the city completely under their dominance. Sgt. Hank Kowalski and Sgt. Danny McCullough are part of the American force sent to help the war-torn German civilians. Still struggling with misguided loathing of Germans, their experience and relationships with the men and women of Berlin help them overcome their prejudices. The Big Lift was filmed on location in bombed-out Berlin and is an accurate depiction of this historic event."--Container.

A most fascinating movie for a number of reasons: -Montgomery Clift is great as to be expected, -many of the actors are service men and women who served in WWII, -the movie is actually shot in Berlin, with all the ruins, rubble and destruction are evident in most every shot, -humor as Montgomery Clift's character tries to explain democracy to an East German woman, -a romance between american pilot and a West German woman is both giddy and strained by circumstances, -and as you might guess by the tittle this movie is set during the Berlin Air Lift, tension, smuggling, spying....the beginning of the Cold War.

All in all a lovely little film of historical note.

If you want Hollywood blockbuster trope/crap like "13 Hours" or "American Sniper" then stay away from this little gem of a movie

The movie is a little boring. Not much story here. Also the quality (for this DVD transfer) is just awful. Audio sucks. Video is barely legible. Don't waste your time. Sad to say.
