DC Rachel Bailey has dragged herself up from a deprived childhood and joined the Manchester Police. Rachel's boss thinks her new recruit has bags of raw talent but straight-laced DC Janet Scott, her reluctant partner, has her doubts. This title was originally published in the U.K. by Corgi Books as a prequel tie-in to the then new television series Scott and Bailey, now in it's third season. Seasons 1 and 2 are available on DVD. See my Staff Picks Blog Post for this title.

Loved this book! I am really enjoying the writing of Cath Staincliffe. Her crime novels are fantastic and I enjoy the personal relationships between the different characters.

I can't wait for her next book! Author lives in Manchester, England; she is short-listed for the Crime Writers' Association award for Best First Novel for her Sal Kilkenny series, and for the Dagger In The Library Award. She is also the novelist and creator of the hit UK TV series, "Blue Murder". Best comment comes from critics: Literary Review (UK): "A solid, ingenious plotter with a sharp eye for domestic detail...real people, real problems, sometimes with solutions still to come. Staincliffe writes brilliantly with compassion about things that matter."
