Dusty, a small town plane, dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer, but he has two problems: he isn't built for racing and he's afraid of heights. So he receives help from a seasoned aviator named Skipper Riley to take on the defending champ of the villainous racing circuit named Ripslinger. Dusty's courage is really put to the test when he aims to reach heights he never thought possible, giving the world inspiration to soar.

A nice enough movie but not as good as Cars or Cars 2 or as good as the other many films that is was touched by John Lasseter (original story). I found it to have too many stereotypical cliches that made me feel more objectionable than being able to just enjoy the otherwise enjoyable ride.
The bonus feature had a fairly long segment talking to director, Kay Hall, and about his family's connection to airplanes. He and other team members (some from the Cars films), were very careful in creating authenticity to the aircraft details.

Nice little story. The music for this movie is heavier and less pleasant than "Cars" and "Cars 2". But other than that, nothing bad in it.

Never a dull moment in this one. Planes is about a air race. There is a slight geography lesson included.

Unfortunately, it seems to make the 'female' planes objects of the desires of the 'male' planes. That part could have been eliminated or a female plane could have come in neck in neck with the winning plane.

Parents watching this with children could end with a discussion about the opportunities that exist for pilots; female and male.

Looking forward to watching the Planes Fire and Rescue movie, too.
