"Dancing With Myself" is the autobiography by British pop star, Billy Idol (aka. William Albert Broad).

In his heyday - Idol was a part of the MTV Generation.

In this book he tells of both the highs as well as the lows of his music career where he often felt as if he were riding on a literal roller coaster a good part of the time.

If you are at all curios about what's going on behind that twisted sneer and the platinum-blonde spiky hair - "Dancing With Myself" is Billy Idol's "tell-all" adventure story that openly invites the inquisitive reader into that old, familiar realm of "Sex, Drugs, & Rock'n'Roll".

Written back in 2014 (when Idol was turning 60) - This 320-page autobiography also covers Idol's formative years when he was back in Middlesex, England, long before being catapulted from a pugnacious, little punk into a glittering, glowing pop star (thanks ever so much to MTV).

This book also includes a 16-page photo gallery for your viewing pleasure, as well.

I guess my expectations were high. A very forgettable book. A jumbled mess at times much like his life. As a fan of his music I wish I could recommend, but I just can't do it.

I am quite surprised when I opened the book, just published and could not have had more than one patron before me, that the early pages were stained with some type of red sauce. Also that so many pages were turned down on their corners. Such a pity that so much disrespect is shown to books.

Perhaps that previous renter was a self-serving, self-involved poser like the author appears to have been in the 1980's. Idol takes us along with him as he revisits his "brat" years as a MTV superstar. He lets us in on some of the inspiration he had for his most famous songs, but makes no excuses for his behavior.
He seems to be, at almost sixty years old, at peace with himself. Of course the whole book could just be a way to restart his career which, like so many artists of the 1980's has fizzled out in the way that MTV has from such heights of stardom to nostalgia "remember when MTV played music videos".
As far as rock autobiographies, this one if alright. Idol tries his hand at prose and seem genuine in his desire to tell his story. The only thing is whether you care enough to read it.

Not bad, pretty much what you'd expect. Ah, the good old days...

I listened to Billy Idol when I was a kid until his Cyberpunk album, which seemed to end his career.
There are some interesting stories in here, it gets repetitive at times though.
The lifestyle he lived, it's quite amazing he didn't die from an OD.
