As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities. And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one. Ugly duckling turned swan? Abducted by handsome highwayman? Rescued from drudgery by charming prince? No, no, and...heh. Now Izzy's given up yearning for romance. She'll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who's never even been kissed? This one.

Really fun and charming. I love romances with unconventional protagonists and this definitely had that! Also the LARPing element was just great. Sounds totally weird and is totally weird but also worth it.

A little odd, but completely charming.

Romance with surprises, humor, triumphs over difficulties.

This book was so much fun and had the perfect balance of sexy, sweet, and funny. Can't wait to read more by this author!

Tessa Dare writes exceptional Regency romances, and part of what makes her so exceptional is the fully fleshed out world and secondary characters she creates. In the case of this book, that world is a nineteenth century version of literary fandom surrounding the heroine's father's books, and Dare's sly pokes at fandoms of all sorts are hilarious without being mean-spirited. The romance itself is compelling, but it's the humor and the winks at the reader that make this one so memorable.

Loved this book! The characters were well developed, and there was a great balance of humor and drama. Enjoyed this book enough to be excited about the next in the series!

This is one of the most entertaining historical (and hysterical) fiction books I have read.
