Meet Harry Dresden, Chicago's first (and only) Wizard P.I. Turns out the "everyday" world is full of strange and magical things, and most of them don't play well with humans. That's where Harry comes in. Since his girlfriend left town to deal with her newly acquired taste for blood, Harry's been down and out. He can't pay his rent. He's alienating his friends. He can't recall his last shower. Then when things are at their worst, the Winter Queen of Faerie saunters in with an offer Harry can't refuse. All he has to do is find out who murdered the Summer Knight, the Summer Queen's right-hand man, and clear the Winter Queen's name. It seems simple, but Faerie politics seldom work out that way. Then Harry discovers the fate of the entire world rests on this case. So no pressure. Magic, it can get a guy killed.

Fans of Harry Dresden will not be disappointed by this fourth book in the series. This had all of the wit, magic, and mystery that I have come to expect from the Dresden Files series, and I enjoyed Butcher's take on the Faerie Courts. I also appreciated the return of some supporting characters from earlier novels--Billy and the werewolves and Toot, especially--and I love how Harry continues to develop as a character.

I love this series – good, light, fantasy reads, with strong characters and enough intriguing over-arching plots to keep me sucked in.

This book was action-packed and filled with thrills and excitement. The suspense though out comes to a gripping final showdown. accompanied by Harry's great wit ( the tree scene right after he shoots from the ground is priceless). It's a great story , with a well-thought-out plot, an excellent read/listen. James Masters does a fantastic job as Narrator.
* Suggestion for anyone listening to the CD-books on tape. Borrow the book of ebook at same time. Most of Disc 4 is wiped out on the CD and you miss a lot. You can read chapters 12, 13 & 14 then go back to the CD's afterwards. Without the book you would miss to much.

3 1/2 stars (Though if you're on book four of the series you might round up as you obviously like it). Like an old pair of jeans - comfortable but not flashy. Plot is the same as the first three books: Dresden bumbles into more trouble than he can handle but he can't say no when a dame is in distress. Mike Hammer meets Merlin. A page turner / quick read.

Probably my favorite in the series thus far! ^_^ I LOVE Toot!!! The faeries are definitely an interesting bunch!

I normally don't like first person perspectives, but Harry's world and mind are brilliant to be in! He has the kind of wit I always wished I had.
Jim Butcher knows how to use his characters and isn't afraid to push them to their breaking points. Things never are dull and situations always escalate for Harry and his companions.
My only complaint is that none of this is real. Bummer.

I was very pleased with this entire novel. I loved it from beginning to end. It started getting better with the last one and I believe the storyline and Sidhe conflict was interesting seeing as how before this novel I never read anything specifically involving the world of Faerie Perhaps in the Shannara novels up to a point. Dresden continues to convince me there can be such a thing as extremely sarcastic wizard.

Fail! That's totally the wrong picture to go with that book! LOL
