A highly entertaining debut in series set in 1930s Britain. The conclusion is unexpected but believable, and the main characters very likable. Very enjoyable.

An easy and enjoyable read, much in the style of Christie. I particularly like the writing style of this author. She is not overly wordy or descriptive, and uses a good mix of dialogue to scenario setting.

First in the series and I can't wait for the next one. This is very reminiscent of The Thin Man with its snappy dialogue and settings. Just has a very 1930's feel to the plot and characters. It's always refreshing to have a smart heroine!

This is a good British mystery with an Agatha Christie feel about it. Everyone seems to have a motive for the killing and you are never sure who did it.

If you are looking for a fun and gentle mystery this might be your cup of tea. Amory Ames tries to help out an ex but gets herself embroiled in murder while at a lovely seaside resort.

classic English “house” mystery with diverse players, most of whom fall under suspicion. Taking place in 1929, the story takes advantage of a “between wars” setting amongst the English elite at the English seaside. Amory, the main character, is somewhat estranged from her husband Milo, who has been gone to the Cote d'Azur for several weeks. She agrees to attend a seaside gathering with her former fiance Gil at the exclusive Brightwell Hotel. Gil wants her to help him dissuade his sister from marrying a rake, Rupert. In addition Gil has designs upon Amory. Once everyone arrives, including Milo who shows up unexpectedly, things get interesting.

For a first novel this was great. I kept picturing Nick & Nora Charles in the old black and white movies. Have already ordered the second novel!

Fabulous, interesting, well written, by far the best book I have read in a long time. If you are a Phryne Fisher fan, you will enjoy Amory Ames. I have read both books by Ashley Weaver and I am looking forward to more. If you like this book, I suggest the Anglela Marchmont series by Clara Benson.

Very entertaining mystery in a Downtown Abbey setting only this story takes place in the early thirties.Story is about Amory and her cad of a husband. We know nothing of her previous life, except that she has a former fiance. A great read.
