Flatmates Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonny Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) are three vampires who are just trying to get by in modern society; from paying rent and sticking to the housework roster to trying to get invited in to nightclubs, they're just like anyone else - except they're immortal and must feast on human blood. When their 8000 year-old flatmate, Petyr, turns 20-something human hipster, Nick, into a vampire, the guys must teach him the ropes and guide him through his new found eternal life. And in return they are forced to learn a thing or two about modern society, fashions and technology. But its the introduction of Nicks human friend, Stu, that really changes the vampires lives and attitudes towards the ever-changing world around them. When Stu's life is threatened, the vamps show us that maybe humans are worth fighting for, and that even though your heart may be cold and dead, it doesn't mean you can't feel anything.

What We Do in the Shadows is a spoof mockumentary following the everyday life of four flatmates in New Zealand, who also happen to be vampires. One of the stars is Jemaine Clement (as Vladislav) from the popular TV comedy series Flight of the Conchords. They discuss how they manage to “blend in” with humans and what the main problems with humans are. We follow them as they prepare and go out for a night on the town, and we find out how they joke around and what they find humorous, etc. I particularly enjoyed the individual secret interviews where they complain about each other. Don’t miss watching the extras either as they are a series of hilarious skits about everyday events. (Submitted by Melanie).

Very amusing mockumentary giving a behind-the-scenes look at everyday life for a group of flatmate vampires. A little bit bloody but not too bad; a good horror movie for those who don’t tend to like horror movies.

Mildly entertaining... I kept watching, but many of jokes get old and it’s predictable, especially what happens to Stu.

HILARIOUS. I loved the mockumentary style and the characters.

What starts as an unassuming and quirky mockumentary about vampires in the modern age turns into one of those movies where you have to keep pausing it because you are laughing so hard. The humor is a bit understated, but if that's your thing this is for you.

Probably the greatest vampire movie of all time, written, directed and starring the genius behind "Thor Ragnarok"
The story follows a share-house of New Zealand vampires as they go about their business, negotiate who does the dishes, and get into arguments with werewolves.

"What are we?"

"Werewolves, not swear-wolves."

A quirky and quite funny slice of life (er-- slice of undeath?) look at what's it like to be a modern vampire in New Zealand. Surprisingly, there's actually some amount of plot and introspection of the characters, which just enhances the film's weirdness and charm.

There is such a thing as a running gag, but the longer a gag runs, the less funny it tends to be. This would have made a nice 10 minute short humor segment, but a full blown movie? Nope! Just to long and this subject to oozing more boredom than gore OR laughs.

This mockumentary is brilliant but not for everyone it seems from the number of low reviews.

How are these funny or witty?
Vamp A: I went in to the lounge the other day and there was blood all over my nice antique couch.
Vamp B: Which one, the red one?
Vamp A: Well, it's red now, yeah. If you're going to eat a victim on my nice clean couch put down some newspaper on the floor and some towels. It's not hard to do.
Vamp B: We're vampires! We don't put down towels.
Vamp A: Some vampires do.
Vamp B: Well, not serious ones!
Vamp X: Yes, some of our clothes are from victims. We might bite someone and then... you think, 'ooh, those are some nice pants!'
Vamp X: Just pay attention. Pay attention. Laugh with the group. You will not remember the last hour and a half, of what you have just seen. You will forget... the contents of this movie.
