Kisses from Katie is the story of a high school senior who travels to Uganda and subsequently invests her life in the people she meets there. Katie Davis says her life is not extraordinary, but she goes on to describe extraordinary ways the Lord shows up in desperate circumstances.
Katie Davis came with no formal training, no formal backing and no formal plan. She was compelled to get involved, and took the first step. She used her hands and feet to show God’s love in practical ways, and became known in an impoverished land as “Mommy.” Indeed, at age 18, she fed, schooled, applied medical help, housed and eventually adopted. Now, ten years later, Katie’s nonprofit has a Board of Directors, farming education to sustain life, food outreach, a self-sustaining vocational program and sponsors over 700 children.

I sat down to glance at this book, and never moved until I finished it hours later. Amazing true story will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Honest, vulnerable, and real this book will challenge, inspire and warm your heart. If you read one biography this year, make it "Kisses from Katie."

This is a very inspiring story of the difference on person can make in the lives of others. Her ministry, Amazima, is doing wonderful things and her approach towards giving herself to others is wonderful. I did feel that the book was repetitive at times and I would have liked to see more of Katie's life in Uganda. But the message was wonderful and will stay with me for a while.

This was a life changing book for me. I was amazed at how much I learned from someone so young. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for encouragement to live their calling in Jesus.

In Kisses from Katie, you will see sacrifice that is comparable to Amy Carmichael or Mother Teresa, that proves this love for God is still evident in the 21st century. A thought-provoking story of a girl who leaves all behind for a new love God has placed in her heart, this is bound to make you re-think your priorities in life. The simplicity, under-priviledged, and destitute life that is common for so many is revealed through the eyes of a former upper-middle-class teen and young adult. A must-read, for it is a much-needed perspective in this materialistic America.
