The Obernewtyn Chronicles are a classic fantasy/dystopian series written by an Australian author. The characters are well developed and easy to relate to, and the story regularly refers back to the "before time" which is our present day, so there are many opportunities for readers to mull over what is happening on earth today and wonder what the consequences may be.

My only disappointment, if I can call it that, is that given Isobelle Carmody is an Australian Author, it would have been nice to have the book set in a location that was identifiable as Australian. But otherwise this is a great read, and I recommend it to young adults and adults alike.
