Twelve-year-old AJ does not want to spend an entire month living with her strict Grandma Jo. Not only does her grandmother tell her how to walk, what to eat, and which rooms she can enter, she fills all of AJ's free time with boring sewing lessons. Grandma Jo wants nothing more than to transform her adventurous, fun-loving granddaughter into a prim and proper lady and AJ hates it. But AJ's dull summer takes an exciting turn when she discovers that her grandmother's "bridge group" is actually a club of crooks. And when Grandma Jo offers to teach AJ lock picking instead of embroidery in exchange for help with a few capers, AJ is thrilled to join her grandmother's madcap band of thieves who claim to steal only for ethical reasons until AJ begins to question what it really means to be one of the 'good guys'.

I love this book! It's really funny and the story is great! I stayed up past two just to finish it (many times)!

This book was full of suspense which I did like lots. There were lots of repeats but overall, it didn’t matter much.

So it's not a secret: AJ's grandma is in a heist club. This is VERY much a 5th graders book. Girl wants approval of adult but adult won't give it. Has a best friend but AJ's actions/ words are misunderstood. There's a mean girl but actually she's misunderstood too. Around page 175, that got real old because it kept repeating the same style scenarios. There's an odd twist towards the end. Even though the book dropped hints along the way, it still was very much out of left field.

There are 4 grandmothers to showcase different styles. However Grandma Jo is the second main character. She was sour and negative. It was clearly conveyed why AJ had trouble speaking up both to her friends and her granny. However her grandmother's callous way of handling matters was never really addressed. I strongly disliked the negative way grandmothers were depicted. And I couldn't find the humor although others said they did.
