When thirty year old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a summer job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's holiday home in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation: a tropical island beats the library any day. T.J. has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost seventeen and if having had cancer wasn't bad enough, he now has to spend his first summer in remission with his family instead of his friends. Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash lands in the Indian Ocean. Marooned on an uninhabited island, Anna and T.J. work together to obtain water, food, fire and shelter but, as the days turn to weeks then months and finally years, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

4 Stars - I highly recommend if you enjoy survival style plots and won't mind a bit of romance.

When 30-something Anna is offered a summer tutoring job in the Maldives she jumps at the chance. 16 year old TJ, just recovering from cancer, is not so excited to spend the summer away from his friends catching up on school work. When Anna and TJ's pilot has a heart attack, their sea plane crashes in the Indian Ocean. The two make it to an uninhabited island and must use their everything they have to survive, and hopefully be rescued. After years on the island, TJ isn't a kid anymore, and years becomes a long time to spend with someone without knowing them better.

I will fully admit that the shock factor of the plot made me want to read this book. When I found it for $1 at a used bookstore on our AR road trip, I had to pick read it soon! This book did not disappoint me. This book is told in alternating perspectives, which I found really interesting. There were some patches of time that were skipped over, and others that were very detailed, which felt representative of being stuck on an island for years. The entire first part of the plot centers around survival and living on the island. I was really interested in how they would make all of the details of life work without any supplies. From the more mundane (but necessary) things like collecting water, to riding out horrible storms, jelly fish wounds, and hemorrhagic fevers, I was very entertained. Then as their relationship developed I was really intrigued to watch them grow and change through their extreme new reality. It was crazy to me that the kept the teacher/student relationship for so long before feeling more like equals. Overall I think the romance worked. It's a little shocking, but not in a bad way. Overall I really enjoyed this one!

Fairly outlandish and unbelievable, two people survive on a deserted island over several years. It was fine ... it's a cute, short read for a lazy day.

A book to read when you want to think about nothing. Very simple and predictable contest. Good reading on vacation time.

When I was about 1/3 of the way through this book, I wondered if watching paint dry would be more interesting.
The characters were very flat. The storyline was fairly predictable and their May/December relationship inappropriate.
Also, I found both characters to be sort of mindless and under-reactive.
For someone who reads a lot, I would rather have invested the time in a much more captivating book.
To each their own I guess

Beautiful love story, well written. I read the book it 2 days. I would recommend! I was very hesitant because of the subject matter however I am glad I looked beyond that.

Interesting events occurred in this novel to say the least. If you're into 'The Blue Lagoon' then you'll love this. The plot sometimes jumped way ahead into the future, which was a tad annoying and some evens were slightly unrealistic but surprisingly its an addicting book!

I started this book at night and finished it the same day at 4am. Interesting, fun and easy to get into. Also, pretty satisfied with the ending :)

No this book probably isn't going to win any awards for originality or for plot, but I loved it! It kept me interested the whole way through, I read it in one sitting. I fell in love with the characters and I was really invested in what happened to them. So don't go into this expecting a life-changing read and you'll enjoy it for what it is!

I really enjoyed this, please people this is a story, it is made up, so who cares if it is kind of far-fetched! It made a great story and what happened between the two main people was very believable, in fact I don't get how she held out for so long!! laws do not apply on an island!! it is ultimately a love story.

This book does not rate more than 1 star. I give that for the cover. The story is too much like, The Blue Lagoon in so many ways. I recently watched the 1980 re make of that movie, starring Brooke Shield.
I will not other reading, Covet!
