What a wonderfully crafted and hilariously acted movie! Taika Waititi is slowly but surely becoming one of my favourite directors (see: What We Do In The Shadows). Pure joy from start to finish, it displays Sam Neill's experience as an actor, and also Julian Dennison's gift for comedic and emotiv... Read More »

The scenery is breath taking. I'd like to go wild there. Scene capture is unique in the wilderness. Excellent story, well acted. Some people living in the forests do get rather "wild" at times, doing things that shock city people. I might be old, but I do envy a young one having that experience. Being with someone who has the "wilderness knack". To think, learn, know, understand & be. Wonder filling...I will watch & enjoy once more before I let it go.

Amusing, delightful, silly, comedic, yet, a heart-wrenching film! Good, interesting story and wonderful cinematography! The nature scenes of this island are amazing and beautiful! The main lead, a teen boy, Ricky, is superb in his role! He has a talent and I hope to see more of him in the future films!
This is an obviously low-budget film, but does deliver a good, entertaining film!
The only criticism, I do not know why it was necessary to have a bloody, disturbing killing scene of a wild boar, though! That alone had made the film unsuitable for the younger viewers, even though the butchered boar was not shown, (but all the blood on her face was!). Perhaps, it was to show the discrepancy of a loving, kind woman and her practicality in obtaining food from the wild, her turning into a sudden savage!? The only comedic moment in that scene was the boy falling into a faint due to shock!
Aside from that scene, this is a good comedy with a message about families and caring, and not giving up even on those that the society has given up on!
This story is worth to watch more than once just to get all the nuances!

A young man in the foster care system in rural New Zealand unexpectedly finds a true home, but when tragedy strikes he flees into the Bush in an attempt to hold onto the only family that has ever felt real to him. I love Sam Neill, and this was a unique role to see him play. Plenty of quirky humor and New Zealand accents, with a surprising amount of feeling.

Absolutely delightful. Hilarious, touching and a great cast. Director/Writer/Actor Taika Waititi (What We Do In the Shadows, Thor: Ragnarok) does it again!

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a phenomenal film full of the heart and humor director Taika Waititi does so well. The film follows Ricky Baker, a child in New Zealand's foster care system who must adjust from his city life to a life in the bush. The screenplay walks the perfect balance between light, humorous, and heart wrenching. I found this film quotable, comforting, and perfect for rewatching. If I was only able to watch films from a single director for the rest of my life, Taika Waititi would be on the very top of the list. If you enjoyed the new Thor film I would highly suggest giving Hunt for the Wilderpeople a watch...or twelve.

Great movie. I would have never seen it if it were not for my friend who recommended it to me and I'm glad he did. Very funny and a good drama. I would recommend it.

My partner and I really enjoyed this movie. Full of charm and some humour, with a serious side too it. Took awhile to realize that the main adult of the film was Sam Neill, from the Jurassic Park films, whom was very good in this quirky but enriching story. Recommended.

This movie started off interesting but fell flat about 10-15 minutes into it. I was very disappointed.

A lot of fun. The character of Ricky is absolutely hilarious, and he is a joy to watch. You can definitely feel the influence of Wes Anderson through the set direction and pacing. A great light movie to watch with friends and family.

Violence: Some hunting violence and a bloody scene used to comedic effect.

"Faulkner is cauc-asian" - well, they got that wrong because you're obviously white.
