On the back of my copy of the book, it compares Gill Paul to Kate Morton. I think that's unfair to both authors as each has their own unique style. You can't really say that it is an "historical" novel but the author does indeed take actual facts and intertwines historical figures (the tragic Romanovs) with her own imagination and spans it over 100 years. I, like other readers, started to get bored early on and almost put it down. I usually find it offensive when an author takes literary license with actual people but in this case it works, particularly the second half of the novel when it really starts moving along with Dimitri, Rosa and their children. The last 50 pages kept me riveted and I loved the ending. So take that grain of salt and sit back for an enjoyable read.

WOW - If you're a fan of historical fiction this is a must read. Didn't know if I would like it at first but glad I stuck with it. Very hard to put down. I was not familiar with the Romanov's story so I learned a lot. I googled different people, palaces, and places to learn even more. This is a must read for anyone of loves historical fiction.

Only read about 40 pages. Too many padded sentences to increase the number of pages, one presumes. Under-developed writing style.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!

OMG, I was secretly rooting for Dmitri and Tatiana, for them to have that happily ever after they so deserve! But does it ultimately happen? Well.... you will have to read it and find out.

Kitty ran from her husband and settled into her grand grandfather Dmitri's remote cabin in the USA, she slowly uncovers more and more about his mysterious past and kept wondering what led to break between him and her grandmother.

The story of Dmitri and Tatiana is so sweet, they are like high school sweethearts type of love story. But the problem is....the Russian revolution is just about to happen to turn their love story into a tragedy, because the entire world has heard of the atrocities that the Romanov family faced in the bitter end. So very very sad. But during those months apart, so close yet to far, Dmitri and Tatiana never lost hope in each other.... until the unthinking happens (the savage killing of the Romanov family), leaving Dmitri traveling far and wide for years in the hopes that one day he will find his beloved wife, Tatiana.

You really get to know the characters and sympathize with them. Ultimately history and politics was against these two love birds, if it wasn't for that they would have had a good marriage, but then again we wouldn't have a story based on the possibilities of what could have been. Definitely an engrossing and heart wrenching read.

Wow, I have found an author. This is really really good. This well educated author writes well , which is key to the telling of any story. Must find another novel by her.

Excellent read; very moving-Author researches and knows her characters. The story is about the doomed Romanov family in the time of the Russian revolution and about the love between one of the Grand Duchesses, Tatiana and a royal guard, Dimitri who are caught in the time of the First World War. Plan on reading all of Gill Paul's other novels.

This book was incredibly dull and predictable. There is always a challenge when reading a "new" story where you already know the ending from history. I didn't feel that the way this story turned out was plausible in any way.

This is a well worth the read! I almost gave up on it earlier on, seemed to be written more like a history text than a novel, but the dual plot intrigued me, and am I ever glad that I stuck it out. Interesting plot development, great characters and a satisfying ending.

A fictionalized tale of Tatiana Romanov and Royal Guard Dmitri Malama started during WW 1, through the Russian Revolution and the massacre of the Royal Family until Dmitri's death in NY State in 1975.

Wonderfully woven fact and fiction made told by a master story-teller made this a very interesting read.

Star crossed, love lost and found, the compromises of life, all told with characters you find yourself cheering on.
