There are a lot of “filler pages” in this book, making it unnecessarily longer and less interesting than it should be. The author may describe the color and pattern of a dress and compare it to the weather or other objects, and it simply detracts from the story.
The author finds a way to justify adultery by masking it with the excuse of abuse. Deal with the abuse and settle it before engaging in another relationship. It’s just not right.
The author also toggles between two relationships: one from the 40’s and one more current, and has taken liberties to make their connection plausible. It’s not.
It’s not the worst book on the planet, but not the best by a long shot!
